La Crosse Technology Wireless Color Forecast Station-La Crosse 308-146 Reviewed

La Crosse Technology Wireless Color Forecast Station
La Crosse Technology Wireless Color Forecast Station

A La Crosse Technology Wireless Color Forecast Station Is a Good Choice For a Beginner

The weather is very interesting to me. The La Crosse Technology wireless color forecast station the model #308-146, would be where I start.

Not all people feel like I do towards the weather. If you have decided that weather instruments and interpreting the weather are now important to you, this is where you want to be.

I am going to go over what the La Crosse 308-146 is all about. Then once we cover that, I will share my opinion of why it would be a good choice to purchase.

Description

This is a lower-priced personal home weather station. As I own other La Crosse products, I will vouch for the quality of their weather instruments. I have found them to be consistently accurate and they work problem-free. Both are good things in my book.

This La Crosse Technology wireless color forecast station has as its main features, just what its title says.

I love the color screen, I love that it is wireless, and I also love it for the forecasting technology that it houses.

The forecast part is my favorite. It will consistently give you a 12-hour ahead look at what it determines to be your upcoming weather.

It uses weather icons to display its forecast. It is never boring and the icons are really cool.Standard Forecast Icons

It is trending towards the forecast, plus the forecast is derived from using the relative humidity in your local location, along with whether the barometric pressure is going up or falling lower.

The station transmits from the TX142THV2 Wireless Outdoor Temperature/Humidity Sensor to the inside your home located display console.

The transmission is the wireless transmission of up to 300 feet between the sensor and the display.

Display

You may look at the picture on the colored forecast display console on the right. As you can see, the screen is colored and it has the following information available to you. It also has three other main areas of information.

It has an area I call the calendar-time-date type of information. It features an atomic clock and the seasonal time changes that are automatic as well.

Then the other two sections have indoor temp and relative humidity and then a section for the outdoor temp and relative humidity.

Dimensions

  • Colored Screen Display Console measures as 5.9″ L x 2.36″ W x 5.90″ H
  • The TX142THV2 Wireless Outdoor Temperature/Humidity Sensor is measured at 1.57″ L x 0.82″ W x 5.11″ H

Manufacturer Support

A great source of information on your La Crosse Technology wireless color forecast station is to go to the La Crosse 308-146 owner’s manual. It can be seen by clicking here???

How Everything in your La Crosse 308-146 is Powered

  • Display: Comes with the included AC adapter; Also recommended is to back up with 3 “AA” Alkaline battery backup
  • The TX142THV2 Wireless Outdoor Temperature/Humidity Sensor uses 2 “AA” Alkaline Batteries.

Since this sensor is set up outside I always recommend using Lithium batteries for a much longer battery life.

Please know that the batteries must be purchased by you as extra purchases. Batteries are not included in your La Crosse 308-146 weather station purchase.

Cons

The usual downside to this La Crosse residential weather station is that it only offers a very limited number of weather instruments. If you are willing to pay more for a weather station you will get more instruments and data.

❌ Does not have any wind speed sensors (an anemometer)
❌ Doesn’t have a rain gauge
❌ Does not have a wind direction sensor (a weather vane)
❌ Doesn’t connect to the LaCrosse View App
❌ Doesn’t connect to your personal computer for data logging or data storage
❌The display does not have any alerts on it. You can not do alerts for temperature and wind or relative humidity, with it

Consumer Ratings

So in looking at this newer model from La Crosse, it reminds me a whole lot of a long-term good seller that came out a few years ago.

This referred to the wireless color weather station is the s88907 La Crosse Weather Station.

You can read my review on that weather station by going to it here: The La Crosse Wireless Color Forecast Station.

The one thing that definitely has been updated since the S88907 La Crosse weather station was released is the display screen is more extensive and has more features seen on it. I really like the improvements since the S88907 La Crosse came out.

So it is still a great seller for La Crosse but the new improved La Crosse Technology weather station model 308-146 has a new feature that everyone looks for today, it has a USB charging input.

Yes, you can charge your mobile device by plugging it into your new USB wireless weather station.

So the price, with the new improvements is around $5.00 more as of today. This may change, but that is my report for today on the pricing.

The one thing your eye will immediately notice is that the older S88907 model is more vertical (taller) and the new one, the 308-146 is more horizontal (wider).

You can take a look at these two models as I lay them out for you side by side.

Bluetooth Weather Station La Crosse Scientific Technologies #S87078

Bluetooth Weather Station

To Start the Review of the La Crosse Bluetooth Weather Station

A very unique weather station choice can be yours if you choose the La Crosse S87078 Bluetooth Weather Station.

The weather station has three very different features that make it very attractive to a consumer.

I want to go over these three features with you now.

    • Feature 1  It has a USB Port for charging your I-phone or any mobile device. The charging port is a 1 amp charging port.
    • Feature 2  The Display screen is part of a Bluetooth speaker. This then makes it a Bluetooth weather station. You are able to play music from your mobile device through it.
    • Feature 3 It has a colored trim for the base. The trim is a LED trim that is very bright, colorful, and it is color-coordinated with the weather forecast that is predicted by trend indicators. The Trim LED actually has three settings on it.
      • 1 You can set your own preferred color
      • 2 It can be coordinated with the weather forecast
      • 3 It can be set on a loop of the seven colors and cycled through automatically from one color to the next

      Etc, Etc, Etc.

How the Two Main Parts Are Powered

Here are how the power is supplied to your La Crosse weather station with a Bluetooth speaker.

      Bluetooth Weather Station

The display is powered by the supplied AC adapter. This is the main power source which is then backed up by using 3 “AAA” Alkaline batteries. The batteries are not included but must be purchased extra.

The other part that needs power is the Thermo-Hygro Sensor. It will take 2 “AA” Alkaline batteries to power it up properly.

I would recommend these batteries since they are used out of doors, they will need to be lithium batteries for longer life, due to outside weather conditions and temperature differences.

      Dimensions

The following are for you to size up both the display units as well as the Thermo-Hygro sensor for their real size.

      • The display/Bluetooth speaker is: 4.61″ L x 2.85″ W x 8.33″ H
      • The Thermo-Hygro Sensor is measured at: 1.57″ L x 0.82″ W x 5.12″ H

      Instrument Sensor Ratings

The display inside will show you all the sensor readings as currently collected. The display has indoor temperature and relative humidity readings that it will give you.

      • It will also display the outside current temperature and relative humidity to you. These outdoor readings are sensed and sent (transmitted up to 300 feet) to the display inside your home.
      • This outdoor sensor is the Thermo-Hygro sensor (part Id TX141TH-BV2) that is included in the La Crosse weather station with Bluetooth speaker purchase.
      • The relative humidity will be measured from 10% to 99%, and the temperatures indoors will be from 32 degrees F to 122 degrees F.
      • The outdoor temperature readings will be from -40 degrees F to 140 degrees F

      Display

As you move clockwise around the display’s featured information facing you have the Digital calendar information presented as well as both the indoor temp/relative humidity, and the outdoor temp and relative humidity.

      • The facing labels them as IN and OUT, so you will know which readings are from which location.
      • The large reading in the center is the time in whether 12 or 24-hour settings. Thus 12:24 pm or 13:24 for the 24-hour person.
Display Face of La Crosse S87078 Bluetooth Speaker
Display Face of La Crosse S87078 Bluetooth Speaker
      • Then we have near the bottom, the 12-hour weather forecast is presented with weather icons and an arrow is shown. The up arrow is pressure is raising (weather is getting better), or down arrow, the pressure is trending downward (bad weather coming) or an arrow points to the right which means the air pressure is holding steady. The weather is holding steady, without any changes as well.

      Pros

✅ You get to enjoy the Bluetooth-enabled speaker
✅ The dynamic color LCD with forecast icons and temperatures is fun to use
✅ It has dual alarms with 3 sound option
✅ Includes a USB charge port (the charging cord is not included)
✅ It has a color-changing LED trim on the base-stay entertained by the color-changing LED base light you can set to change based on the weather forecast, your choice of color, or a 7 color rotation (loop)
✅ The time is accurate as it is an atomic clock
✅ Can be used as an alarm clock
✅ Is highly functional as a trending weather forecast. It takes a little over 2 weeks to learn your locality, so it can supply you with an accurate weather forecast.

      Cons

❌ The display should be plugged into your electrical power source to avoid any interruption in sensor transmission
❌ Is not able to be connected to the La Crosse View app
❌ Can not be connected to a computer for data logging and storage
❌ Does not have a wind sensor
❌ Does not have a wind direction sensor
❌ Does not have a rain gauge

      In Summary, My Thoughts

The La Crosse Weather Station with Bluetooth Speaker, model #S87078 is a very simple color wireless weather station.

Still yet from this simplicity, I learned that this is one of only a few Bluetooth weather stations for sale. This has two very hot features that attract people today.

The first is the Bluetooth speaker provides another choice source for winning with your mobility.

The second thing is that mobility is served again by the USB port for charging your mobile phone, i-pad, or other choices of mobility.

Mobility is king today. Keeping that in mind, this is and should be a winning combination, and a great way to introduce some of La Crosse’s best weather station features to the mobile crowd.

This does a good job of that. I like this choice or maybe you could choose from the one other La Crosse selection, which isn’t quite the same thing but does have the weather station USB port change station feature. You can go to either to get the USB charging port feature.

La Crosse Weather Station With Wind Speed-The La Crosse Technology V21-WTH

La Crosse Weather Station With Wind Speed

Why La Crosse Weather Station With Wind Speed

To start with, I am most interested in a home weather station that is a La Crosse weather station with wind speed. Why is this so?

La Crosse Scientific Technologies Instruments manufactures and presents the consumer with an array of different types of residential weather stations.

These residential home weather stations are made to measure the weather elements as they happen at your home.

La Crosse is probably one of the more popular weather instrument technology companies in the world.

I trust their reliability and I also enjoy their presentation of weather instruments for home observation. Simply said, I just like their weather stations.

Some Great Weather Questions To Ask Yourself

In purchasing a wireless home weather station, you should think about what interests you most about a weather station?

What part of the weather do you find very intriguing? What do you have the most questions about? Is it the wind? The precipitation? Do the temperatures change? Maybe the wind direction?

For me, it’s the wind. The wind is usually a strong indicator of a weather change in your locality.

Weather changes are always happening, they are always different than what you just had. Always updating, and over a period of time, whether it would be months, years or decades many changes will be recorded by meteorologists.

The passing of weather time will give you very similar weather patterns, which can actually help predict future weather conditions, by applying what their history teaches you.

The Wind Measured

So I choose the wind. In the best wireless weather stations with wind speed that you look at, you will always find the wind is measured by an anemometer.

What is an anemometer you ask, great question? I highly recommend you to read the following article I have written, titled What Does an Anemometer Look Like. I posted this article earlier.

La Crosse Weather Station With Wind Speed

The article discusses the history of the anemometer and talks about what the differences are in anemometers.

I have mentioned in previous reviews that the materials that an anemometer is made with can make a difference in its accuracy of it. Whether you are getting an accurate reading should be important to you and your data collection.

Over a period of time, a history of wind speeds will make an interesting history for you to study. You will see which weeks, and months are the windiest.

You will also see the correlation between frontal changes and how violent the wind is during the weather changes you experienced.

Or maybe how bad a rainstorm or snowstorm was as recorded in comparison with the wind speed that came with those changes, and those storms taking place.

Why Choose the La Crosse Technology V21-WTH

I previously reviewed the La Crosse Technology V22-WRTH in this review: La Crosse Color Weather Station-Model V22-WRTH

I was puzzled as to why the two different models. Do you know why would La Crosse have a model V21-WRTH and a V22-WRTH?

I thought maybe one was the same as the previous one but just updated with new technology.

However, in my examination, I find that the Model V22-WRTH is the same as the V21-WRTH except for the V22 has the wind direction added to it.

The wind direction is adding more sophistication to your La Crosse weather station with wind speed. With wind direction comes another, deeper study of the weather.

Maybe you would like to jump up to the added weather data collection by going for purchasing the La Crosse V22-WRTH.

Highlights Of What You Need To Know

So to get the detail about the La Crosse weather station with wind speed, you are invited to read my review of the La Crosse V-22-WRTH by going Here Now.

The transmission is a totally wireless transmission between the sensors and the indoor display unit. It is good up to 400 feet. You are able to use the station as a stand-alone at-home weather station or you may add it to the La Crosse View App.

This will make using the weather station as a mobile device. When you are out and about you will be able to view all details from your mobile as well.

Software
Any added sensors may be added by buying them as extras. You may add up to two new Thermo-Hygro Sensors and when you do add them they too may report your sensor information to you on your mobile La Crosse View app.

La Crosse Wind Speed Weather Station-327-1417 Weather Station

la crosse wind speed weather station

This La Crosse Wind Speed Weather Station

This La Crosse wind speed weather station, the La Crosse Technology 327-1417 provides the top things I look for.

The first thing is that I just love being able to capture wind speed. I think most of us are keenly interested in the wind.

Maybe your interest is one of not liking very windy weather. Mine is, I really like it windy.

When it’s windy I find all of the weather readings we look at becoming much more active and interesting.

Also as I studied this model, I believe wholeheartedly that this is a great entry-level wind station for the more interested weather students.

Let’s take a closer look!

la crosse wind speed weather station

Description

This station provides a nice selection for a gift or even a really solid choice for a first-time weather station purchase. A really good first-time weather station for someone.

Here are some reasons I feel that a La Crosse wind speed station is a great choice.

As I see it, this home weather station with wind speed has many top features that you will want on your personal weather station in 2019.

You will be able to get updated wind speed 24 hours a day. When the weather is very windy, many different things can be happening. So you can set up a high wind alert.

If you have things that need to be protected during high winds, like preventing garbage cans from blowing away. Or maybe you have a large tree beside your driveway, maybe you need to move your automobile to protect it.

It could also mean you have some extreme weather approaching where you live. Time to seek shelter.

As you grow in your experience with the weather station with wind speed, you will become more enthralled by the weather changes, and you will pick up on weather patterns.

From this growth, you will probably be able to actually start predicting some weather conditions that will happen. As you do this, you are protecting your property better, as well as your family from any weather that causes harm.

Other Benefits From a Weather Station With Wind Speed

The wind speed is being updated every 30 seconds and history is stored for a rolling 24-hrs at a time.

During your time period of the last day, you will know what your maximum wind speed was and always what the wind is currently. This is much more fun than a simple wireless color weather station. It’s simply more than calendar readings, temperature, and relative humidity.

You will have access to your current temperature 24/7 as well. The screen is a brilliantly and boldly colored screen that shows the featured information in an easily readable fashion.

It provides you with all current calendar information as well as will provide your correct time from the 7 USA time zones that are programmed into its normal operation.

It has wireless transmission at 433MHz. it should be good with reception up to 330 feet away.

Types of Instruments

The type of instruments available for data collection is, a relative humidity sensor, a thermometer, an anemometer, and it also will give you an updated 12-24 hour forecast, using icons to depict the upcoming conditions.

Here is the description of the two sensor units that come included in this La Crosse wind speed weather station.Sensors for the La Crosse 327-1417

Included TX141TH-BCH Temperature and Humidity Sensor:

  • Temperature range: -40°F to 140°F (-40°C to 60°C)
  • Records a humidity range of 10% to 99% RH
  • Every 58 seconds it updates the temperature on your display unit.

and it also uses the TX144W Wind Speed Sensor this wind sensor has a range of reading from 0-111 miles per hour that are recorded and transmitted. This sensor updates itself every 30 seconds during the 24/7 cycle.

Power Requirements

  • The display unit uses the included 5.0 Volt 150mA adapter as a power source. It can be backed up by 3-“AA” batteries
  • The(TX141TH-BCH) is the temperature and relative humidity sensor: it uses two “C-cell” batteries
  • The (TX144W) Wind Sensor uses 2-“AA” batteries

All Batteries are Not Included.

A word to the wise. The batteries for the two outdoor sensors should be Lithium batteries. Lithium batteries provide a much longer shelf life than regular alkaline batteries will.

Dimensions:

  • The display unit is 6.88” W x 6.37” H x 1.33” D
  • The(TX141TH-BCH) Temp-RH Sensor is 1.57” W x 5.12” H x 0.79” D
  • The (TX144W) wind sensor with the anemometer is 18.57” H x 7.10” W x 7.10” D

Display

The display unit is a nice bright clear colored screen.

This makes it both a colorful addition to your room as well as it makes it much easier to read and see.

It has a high, low, and off switch for lighting. But please note the backlight only works with the unit plugged into your electric power source. It will work manually with batteries only power, by pressing the setting switch.

On the display screen, as we go clockwise around it, you will have the weather forecast depicted with colorful icons. then next you will see a large circle fashioned wind speed (like a dial) is featured on the screen.

This is truly a wind weather station. La Crosse makes a few of these mid-ranged home weather stations with wind speed, where the wind speed is highlighted on the screen.

This is a really good wind speed weather station. A serious contender in the midrange-priced home weather stations,  a value-priced weather station.

Then you will have listed the top wind speed in the last 24 hours. Then we have the “feels like outdoor temperature” listed currently. Then it will show you the indoor temperature, and relative humidity.

As we continue around the clock the last readings shown are the outdoor temperature and the current RH Humidity. Then between 11-12 o’clock is the current time AM/Pm Date and day of the week. Basically all of the updated calendar functions.

The screen is color-coded by colors to separate with your vision, as an example, all outdoor readings are one color as featured.

When you buy this weather station you may also be interested in protecting your sensor unit by buying and enclosing the Temp/RH sensor in this sensor shield.

Protect your equipment from the outdoor elements.

This is a great add-on item for a La Crosse Sensor wind speed sensor. This protector shield measures 7.00 H x 3.73 W x 3.98 D inches.

It is meant to protect most La Crosse TX sensors. That will include the TX141TH-BCH Temperature and Humidity Sensor also known as a Thermo-hygro sensor.

Here is a list of La Crosse sensors it will work with: TX21 (WS-1517), TX18U, TX6U, TX7U, TX8U (w/o CAP), TX141, TX141-A & B, TX141TH-A & B, TX142TH, TX142THv2, TX143TH, TX19, TX191, TX25U, TX28U-IT, TX29U-IT SERIES (TX29UD-IT, 29UDTH-IT, 29UTH-IT), TX31U-IT (1510/1910 SERIES), TX37U-IT, TX38U-IT, TX39U-IT, TX40U-IT, TX45UTH-IT, TX45U-IT, TX50U-IT, TX60U-IT, TX62 SERIES, TX70U-IT, TX71U-IT

Cons

❌ Like most colored screens the display will need to be placed more straight on towards where you are going to be. This will ensure a much better view of the displayed readings
❌ It doesn’t come with the ability to be hooked up to any sharing apps. I guess you could say, not connectable to online or mobile devices
❌ The display must be plugged in to have the backlight on at night. If it is only on battery power to see the screen you must use the backlight button, it will then come on for 10 seconds and then go back off
❌ The La Crosse wind speed weather station does not provide you with wind direction

Consumer Ratings

La Crosse Technology 327-1417 Color Wind Speed Weather StationLa Crosse Technology 327-1417 Color Wind Speed Weather StationLa Crosse Technology 327-1417 Color Wind Speed Weather StationAs I wrote this review about a wind speed weather station, I realized a few things I would like to share.

The first thing is that I thought that wind speed and wind direction are cornerstones of weather forecasts and weather changes.

You will not be that aware of this at first but as you use this La Crosse weather station with wind speed, you will soon know these two things to be true.

While this La Crosse wind speed weather station does not provide wind direction for you. Not to worry, you will pick up on wind direction patterns in your locality.

Keeping these things in mind made me realize why a home wind speed weather station has a place in the homes of many people.

This model from La Crosse the 327-1417 is perfectly priced for the consumer as I figured in the reliability and accuracy of the weather readings.

The quality is there for many years of use. So what do you have?

La Crosse Color Weather Station-Model V22-WRTH

La Crosse Color Weather Station

Introducing a La Crosse Color Weather Station

I was interested in a La Crosse color weather station. So I found the La Crosse V22 WRTH station is a very intriguing choice.

I thought I would write a quick review. My review will provide information about this weather station that isn’t readily easy to come by.

So I will do the research and then you can examine the La Crosse color weather station as I see it.

Then you can make your decision whether you are in or out on this selection from La Crosse Scientific Technologies.

They are designed and built-in right there in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

An Accurate Weather Station From La Crosse

I find this weather station to be a great choice for steady weather data gathering. My experience with a La Crosse Scientific Technology weather station is that they provide you with solid scientific readings.

The data from your local area is collected by an accurate weather station. This is an advantage to you.

So I need to put you on notice that, this review is complete with the exception, that I do not own this unit myself.

I do own two La Crosse weather stations and I know the quality that is built into a La Crosse wireless forecast station.

I know the company and the people that work there. I have visited the La Crosse headquarters personally. The La Crosse area is full of really nice people.

So What Is the V22-WRTH Like

So I initially looked at the benefits of owning the La Crosse V22-WRTH and there are some really cool things that it gives you to enjoy.

La Crosse Color Weather Station

Here is a shortlist of features I found that I needed to see for me to look further.

  • *****Weather forecast and seasonal foliage tree icons*****
  • Wind speed & rain measurements you can select what history you wish to look at.
  • Built-in wifi it uses the La Crosse View App For you to check what is going on at your station’s location
  • It has a full calendar features-like day of the week, month, and dater as well. It has the year and months already programmed in for you.

So why do I need these are the following thoughts.

Well, the first thing is that I personally just simply prefer a color weather station. I find that the black and white or gray screens are harder to see.

I also find the La Crosse color weather stations to just pop out at you. The colors are bright, cheery, and easily seen and read.

This is very important to me. How do you feel about this?

Since I have owned my forecast stations I love the way these weather stations now can give you a forecast for the next 12-24 hours and they use very cool and colorful icons to depict them for you.

Here is a picture of some of the icons they will show you in your local area weather forecast.

Standard Forecast Icons

One more word here on a favorite of mine. It is supplied with Wi-Fi access. You are able to access the La Crosse View App which is an easily installed, and easily used app for your mobile device.

I use my La Crosse View app many times in the day to easily see my local weather conditions. This adds to my ease of knowing the outside weather for my current and next few hours plans in my day.

All fun and very helpful for me.

How are all of the Sensors and Display Powered

PLEASE remember it is always recommended to use Lithium batteries for all outdoor sensors that you are using. Lithium handles the temperature weather condition that changes best for you.

They will give you the best and longest-lasting power.

Here is the list of your required needs for the V22-WRTH model.

  • 2-“C” batteries into the Wind speed sensor
  • 2-“AA” batteries into the Thermo-hygro sensor
  • 2-“AA” batteries into the Rain sensor
  • 2-“AAA” batteries into LTV-D1 bonus station. This is the small black and gray display that is provided as a BONUS
  • 5-volt power cord (required) into the V22-WRTH station display. So it’s 3-AA batteries for optional backup of your time and date. Please note that if you only use batteries in your display unit you will not be getting any automatic updating of sensor and Wi-Fi information. In order for constant updating to occur properly, it is a requirement to have your display powered in your home by the power cord. The batteries are used in the display only as a backup power supply in case of a power outage. Since this is inside normal alkaline batteries will be fine for use here.

Instrument Sensors

The sensors available on this model are the wind speed, and temperature, and relative humidity (the Thermo-hygro sensor).

The unit also has rain collection and measuring, basically in the form of a self-emptying rain gauge. Make sure you mount it at least 6 feet above the ground, and use the provided bubble level, to make sure it is mounted level. This is for the best possible results.

So you have three separate sensors you need to mount and locate.

Types of Transmission

All of the transmissions are wireless. The range is the usual up to 400 feet for good transmission results.

These results could vary widely depending on any obstacles or natural boundaries that exist between your sensors and the home-based display unit.

Things that I extensively talk about in this great article “What’s Involved in Weather Station Mounting-Getting the Most From Your Weather Station”

Display

A brilliantly colored weather station display. The display has a high-low switch for adjusting the brightness of the screen for your viewing preferences.

The facing will display the following information for you to view. The settings are being constantly updated throughout the 24 hour period.

Here is what you can see on your display.

  • Across the bottom is your calendar info, such as day of the week, month, and date. The current time is featured as well.
  • Next, you can see the weather forecast icons for the next 12-24 hour period of time.
  • It will display the current temperature and relative humidity both outside and inside.
  • The center is where you will see the current wind speed and the top wind speed today. The amount of rain measured today will be listed prominently for you as well.
  • One more thing that can be seen is the current real feel temperature outside

Software

La Crosse has recently developed the La Crosse View App for you. It uses Wifi and connects all the pieces of your weather station together cohesively.

The App is free to you and can have added storage of history limits added to it by purchasing a monthly subscription for using the View App.

Dimensions & Mounting Needs

The large color display: 8.98″ L x 1.00″ W x 5.43″ H
The Thermo-hygro sensor or listed as LTV-TH2: 1.97″ L x 0.75″ W x 5.73″ H
The wind sensor listed as LTV-W1: 7.10″ L x 7.10″ W x 18.57″ H (with mounting bracket/pole)
The rain gauge sensor and collection unit is known by La Crosse as LTV-R2: 7.14″ L x 3.43″ W x 4.94″ H
The BONUS small-time/temperature and relative humidity display measures at 2.64” L x 1.32” W x 3.62” H

Pros

✅ You may use this whole unit of sensors and displays in two ways. Option one is as a free-standing weather station without any Wi-Fi app connections or you may use it to its full potential by using both displays in your house, in separate rooms of your choice, and then using all three outside sensors at three different locations as you desire. Then max out its usage by connecting everything together, by adding all sensors, and both displays to your La Crosse View App. This is a definite benefit from maximum usage.
✅ You are given the BONUS small display unit, for use in another indoor location
✅ Full-color display unit which is easily viewed from different angles, especially for night viewing

Cons

❌ The station comes with three separate sensors for the outdoors. So you will need to scout out the best location for the mounting. So you need to mount three sensors in three probably different locations. If you aren’t that handy you may find three installations, all though may be simple to some, to be a bother to you.

❌ The colored display while well lite and colorful, can only be seen legibly at only certain direct angles. This will need your attention in successfully setting up the best viewing for you.

Consumer Ratings

La Crosse V22-WRTH Weather StationLa Crosse V22-WRTH Weather StationLa Crosse V22-WRTH Weather StationSo I find with this weather station that the value is there. The ease of setup is presented to you and with these things in mind I would rate this a must purchase for the up-and-coming weather expert.

It is definitely more exciting and provides more options than the lower price ranged weather stations.

This one I rate as a great choice, for what I call the “Mildly More Than a Casual Observer” level of weather interest.

I believe this is a great learning tool and a solid stepping stone on your way to using weather instruments to better your daily life.

The La Crosse Technology V22-WRTH-INT is a worthwhile choice to look at if you are a mildly more than a casual observer of weather. Well, what do I mean by that?

La Crosse V40-PRO Weather-a Complete Weather Station Review

La Crosse V40-PRO Weather Station

The La Crosse V40-Pro Weather a Personal Review

So I received the La Crosse V40-Pro weather station for a Christmas present. What a terrific gift!

It works out perfectly as I didn’t own this particular model from La Crosse. So it was exciting to get going with checking out all of its features.

With this model, I have found that there are several things that I personally get excited about.

I will bring all of these great things I like in the review as you read on.

La Crosse Scientific Technologies has hit a home run with this model.

La Crosse V40-PRO Weather

Features That Are Provided

This unit provides wind speed, wind direction, precipitation amounts, and a 12 and 24-hour future cast. I love the future forecast part of the display unit.

The display is a brilliantly colored display. It is very eye-catching, and easily seen both during the day as well as the night.

The remote monitoring weather station features wind, rain, indoor and outdoor temperature, and humidity data, daily high and low-temperature records, dynamic forecast icons, and a new Wi-Fi connected option.

La Crosse View App
La Crosse View App

This option will allow you to see all of your sensor data in the new La Crosse View app.  I probably spent a total of ten minutes getting the app set up on my iOS phone.

I also probably spent 20-25 minutes, researching and setting up my weather station to Weather Underground. It is now giving the Weather Underground community constantly, updated weather data from where I live. You may see it by going to this link, George’s Weather Underground.

Please see the video on using the La Crosse View app below in the manufacturer’s support heading. The video explains very well how to set the app up.

 How Powered

  • Display:5.0-Volt 500mA  This power cord is and is a requirement to use with the entire system. The power cord is 70 inches long.  Optional 3 “AA” Alkaline batteries backup
  • LTV-TH3 Sensor: This sensor is a small temperature/humidity sensor. 2 “AA” alkaline batteries are needed.
  • LTV-WR1: This is the main large housing remote sensor, (the one with the rain gauge, the wind vane, and the anemometer), 3 “AA” Alkaline batteries. I would highly recommend Lithium batteries

Display For the La Crosse V40-Pro Weather

The display is a color display. It can be seen very well at most times of the day and night. However, if the sun is shining into your room, I have found it to be very hard to see the screen. Too much light you know!

However probably over 95% of the time, it is not very difficult to view and see everything displayed so nicely and clearly.

The display measures: 8.05″ L x 1.18″ W x 5.70″ H

The display sets upright and is supported by a very firm and easily moved leg support. The settings are along the backside of the entire length of the top of the display. All settings may be changed

Useful Tips

Be aware of two things that aren’t that obvious to a newer person. On the top of the larger remote sensor, the one with the rain gauge, please notice there are small engraved polar directions for North, South, East, and West marked for you to use.

There is also a small bubble level gauge for you so so may use it when setting up your rain gauge level as directed.

The screws for all of the setup are packed in the bottom of the display’s power cord box. The power cord is approximately 70 inches.

I believe when you plan to plug it into your power outlet, then plan to hang it loosely at probably 66 inches maximum distance.

You will be doing well if you plan that 66 inches are the length you are going to need to be under. Remember the display unit should have 3 “AA” batteries inserted in the back of it as a backup power supply.

Length of La Crosse V40 Power Cord Is 70″

Another tip pertaining to powering up is to be noted that the power cord area of attachment, is small and not seen easily at first glance.

So you will please notice on my provided picture where the cord attaches to the back of the display unit.

Types of Instruments & Sensors

La Crosse Technology V40-PRO-INT Color Wireless Wi-Fi Professional Weather StationLa Crosse Technology V40-PRO-INT Color Wireless Wi-Fi Professional Weather StationLa Crosse Technology V40-PRO-INT Color Wireless Wi-Fi Professional Weather StationThe type of instruments that are provided is the following. These are outdoor readings.

  • Rain gauge
  • Wind vane
  • An anemometer
  • Relative humidity sensor
  • Temperature sensor

These are all the instruments that collect data for you from your remote sensors outside where you live.
The sensors have the following dimensions. This will give you an idea of the size that they are.

  • LTV-TH3 (The three-member sensor, includes wind both vane and anemometer) and then other sensor measures: 1.97″ L x 0.75″ W x 5.73″ H
  • LTV-WR1 (the temperature and relative humidity) measures 13.61″ L x 5.14″ W x 8.55″H

The indoor readings provided for you are the temperature currently in the room where your display is as well as the relative humidity indoors.

It also gives you the current time, the date and month, what day of the week it is as well as, plus the current year.

Types of Transmission

The transmissions are wireless and the connections all use Wi-Fi.

  • Transmission range: Up to 400 feet (121 meters) in the open air
  • Transmission frequency: 915 MHz
  • My current personal range is at around 100 feet. I can vouch for it working well at that distance.

Software

The app will be sending constantly updated weather data to your mobile telephone, or i-pad etc. It will send you new weather data and this includes any alerts you have set up.

A note of worthy attention: Please be aware that the La Crosse View App is a limited 24-hour period for data and it stores a week’s worth of rolling data.

If you are expecting to have access to a lot of history and data beyond a 24-hour period and a week’s worth of collected data, please beware of the fact that the View App will cost you some money per month for more historical data collection.

Please see my screenshot of the La Crosse View app page. You will see the current subscriptions that are available for purchase.

La Crosse View Subscription Costs

So here are a few things that the app will present to you. These are free to a point of time as I explained and showed you in the screenshot.

  • Alerts that are available are indoor temperature alerts for both high reading and low reading. Ditto for inside relative humidity as well.
  • Also, I set up alerts for both outdoor high and low temps, and high and low relative humidity readings. If you are using alerts because you are a gardener or a farmer. Alerts can be very handy to have to prevent crop failure for you.
  • The app will also set up the time and date to National Institute of Standards and Technology times with a Wi-Fi connection.

Manufacturer Support

The latter part of this video covers setting up the La Crosse View App on your mobile device. In fact, I thought it covers how to set it up very well.

Setting Up Weather Underground

Pros

✅ Time and Date-12/24 Hour Setting
Displays Day of the Week, Month, Date & Year
Perpetual Calendar: Date, Month, & Full Day

✅ Temp and relative humidity readings are very accurate.
✅ The forecast icons are very colorful and the seasonal trees’ background changes every 3 months to cover the four seasons. The forecast seems to be right in line with what is coming up. No discrepancies here on that.
✅ Color display screen
✅ 4 stages of brightness available on the display
✅ La Crosse View App made available free at a limited availability
✅ I could reset any setting by holding the button down 4 seconds. Convenient to remember

Cons

❌ Mounting pole not included. It does come with a shorter mounting bracket,

V40 Pro Mounting Extension
V40 Pro Mounting Extension

which may be used for limited mounting choices. But many consumers will have need a more extensive mounting pole to extend to greater heights for their mounting location.
❌ La Crosse View App more expansive coverage costs money
❌ Did not see the tiny pressed white N S E W symbols on the top of the remote sensor. You have to dig in the manual to see a mention of them.
❌ Hard to see the screen on the display at certain angles
❌ Hard to see the screen on display with sunshine coming into the room during the daylight and especially bright sunshine.
❌ The rain gauge is very touchy. For many customers, it has been a problem. It must be level when setting up. You will need to be very specific in following the directions for the gauge. They do have a piece of very thorough testing information on the rain gauge to help you out.

Consumer Ratings & Pricing

This is the top end of the middle range for lower-priced value-added weather stations. Let me explain.

Many weather stations fall in the $35-$75 dollar range. These are what I would term value-priced, beginner weather stations. They are offered to beginners and lower interests but STILL Interested in, weather folks.

When you start out, you are “interested”, but probably not “$125-$200 interested” in weather. So you will spend the $35-$75 to get a value personal weather station, but the unit you buy will not be that expansive in the weather data it presents to you.

So as I look at the La Crosse V40-Pro Weather station I see a fairly priced, upper-ended value, personal weather station. I believe it would be very hard to come across any other weather station that will give you this many weather readings and data, from this price point.

As you check around I am sure that you will be hard-pressed to find the accuracy in the data provided and the number of sensors that provide that data at this low of a price.

In looking at what customers see, the majority of consumers have recognized the value for the price in owning the La Crosse V40-Pro Weather equipment. I have been impressed and am a proud owner of this station.
