Why Would You Use Weather Alerts

As an active weather lover, you need to keep up with your current weather conditions. It gives you a certain peace of mind knowing that you have a handle on what your weather is doing.

There are many individuals who feel much peace and comfort when they know what is going on outside. You are probably one of these people if you always find yourself checking your local weather.

You probably can be caught often tuning into the weathercasts on your local news stations whether it would be television or radio.

Weather Alert Sources

So how do you keep yourself updated on the weather in your neck of the woods? Let’s go over some of the ways that this can be done.

I personally use a couple of free apps on my cell phone. I have gone to the app store and downloaded the app from Accuweather.com and I have purchased the app from STORMWATCH+.

I am also an affiliate for Stormwatch+, I wish that to be known, I am not here at this moment to discuss the merits of any of these apps, but to use them as real-life examples of how I personally keep myself whether informed.

I also have the weather app that came with my iPhone on my phone. So in total, I have three weather sources on my mobile phone.

You can get computer alerts from weather sites online. An example of this would be the Weather Channel and Weatherbug. You may also choose to get your weather information and alerts from Weather Underground or Accuweather.

A-List of NOAA Weather Alerts

A list of severe weather alerts that are common that you can get access to is the following. These are very common and nationally recognized weather alerts.

  • heat alert
  • winter weather alert
  • wind chill alert
  • wind advisories
  • flood watch
  • flood warning
  • flash flood warning
  • dense fog
  • tornado warnings
  • tornado watch
  • severe thunderstorm warning
  • severe thunderstorm watch

Here’s How to Get This Weather Information

So to receive these alerts in SMS texting or emails are the most common form. Using Weather AlertsYou will be required by these large national and worldwide weather sites to signup and log in.

Once you have done that you will be able to go to the settings and then you will be able to turn on whatever settings you wish to be part of.

These Sites Will Give You Information

These websites will provide you with updated and detailed information on your current weather, as well as the extended weather forecast?  You can easily find these websites with a standard internet search.

In addition to visiting the online websites of your local news channels or national weather channels, you also have the option of receiving weather updates automatically on your computer.

You will also find that there are downloadable programs that you may go to and then install on your computer.

Home Computer Weather Apps

These weather updates and forecasts are available for your computer at home. If you are using either a laptop or a desktop these methods should sufficiently help you out. Just be aware of where you are downloading any of these programs from.

Many sites will offer downloads for free but they may not be secured sites. You do not want to be giving them a free ride into the security of your home computer. Be extra careful.

Know your source well, if you don’t know them, probably pass on them. A good site to go to that is a trusted site for techie information is cnet.com. I have found over the years that cnet.com is a highly reputable site to go to and to trust for software applications.

You will find that much different weather software is free. Doing a search for weather software on cnet will get you these results. I found the following easily after a search on cnet for “weather software”,

With these two free apps please be aware that they want you to agree to terms and conditions that you may not want to agree to. If so forget doing it and move on.

Use Your Own Personal Weather Station

So you can also still be simple and use your own weather station to give you alerts from it. These will be alerts or alarms to your display unit that will let you know of any big changes in the past hours of your outside weather changes.

As that happens you will be made aware of all the critical things you should know.

As you will see these alerts are not really the same as the above list of NOAA alerts. The same thing goes with the type of National Weather Service alerts you will be getting from these other weather apps.

So you need to stay on top of these alerts to protect your safety, and the safety of your family as well.
